3-pack of our new release 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from our Estate Vineyard in St. Helena were harvested in the first week of October at 24 to 25 degrees Brix and brought directly to the winery. Once there, the grapes were sorted again, put into the stemmer-crusher and then the juice went into stainless steel fermentation tanks designed especially for small lots. Native yeasts were allowed, and we carefully monitored the fermentation, implementing pumpovers as needed. Our 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon received oak aging for 36 months in custom barrels made from three different oak forests in France. This provided the optimal conditions to elevate this superb wine. Bottling was completed in our cellars in July 2020.

Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Coming from a single vineyard on the west side of St. Helena, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and offers a dense a deep garnet-purple color as well as a complex nose of blackcurrants. The wine aroma has a wonderful red fruit filled nose with endless complexity. On the palate plums, baked cherries and crème de cassis are accentuated with hints of tobacco and cedar. Integrated tannins anchor the wine’s well-structured palate which leads to a long, velvety finish. The wine is ready to drink now and will continue to age wonderfully over the next 10 to 15 years.

Winegrowing Information:
The 2017 vintage will always be remembered. The winter months were wet and cold, allowing the vines to rest after their productive 2016 campaign. Bud break occurred in March, with a mix of warm and cool days, frigid nights and several rain episodes during the early stages of the growth flowering. These conditions resulted in a low, uneven set. A warm and dry pattern followed through the end of August, until two major heat waves hit in early September, dramatically affecting ripening conditions. As a result of the intense heat, the vines shut down and the brix and acidity levels in the grapes flat lined for the next three weeks. In late September, the vines came back to life and gave us one last push, resulting in wines with harmonious balance.
